Understory: Snakes, Snails, and the Forest Floor is a site-wide exhibition inspired by the sottobosco paintings of the 17th century.
The idea for the show began with a love for the flora and fauna of the Hudson Valley woodlands, punctuated with a passion for the 17 Century Dutch master Otto Marseus van Schrieck (ca.1619-1678, Netherlands). Otto Marseus and his contemporaries encouraged the conversation between art and science through the development of a pictorial concept which placed still life within the landscape.
Who Is There?
June 20 - August 9, 2024
DC Moore Gallery, New York, NY
Group Exhibition
Who Is There? is a group exhibition of personal, expressive landscapes. The works in the show merge abstraction and representation, depicting threshold spaces and hybridized forms where the observed and the imaginative meet. Evoking our physical presence in the landscape, these landscapes bring forth the sensations of light, heat, and weather. In many works, the presence of a figure is implied but not made visible, eliciting the question, who is there?
